Let’s Talk PolyGel!
Greetings Gurus! Follow me as we step into a time machine and travel back in time to the beginning of a new age: March 2020, Quarantine. Like so many of you, I spent a lot of my time scrolling through social media and watching so many videos. You know, the ones that you see on Facebook,(don’t even get me started on TikTok.) like the horrendous “1 minute hacks” or content from your favorite influencers? Well, I was scrolling searching for inspiration on something that could pass the time and as your typical twenty something female, I created a Pinterest board. I had so many ideas and PolyGel had been on this list of things and I just never got to trying it out. Now, fast forward to the present, I’m here at my new job and as luck would have it, we have these bad boys down in our warehouse!
So, I have decided that I’m finally going to do it, I’m going to learn how to PolyGel and I am going to bring you all along on the journey with me.
First things first, what is PolyGel? It is an all in one formula that combines the best characteristics of both acrylic and gel enhancements. What do I mean by this? Well, Gelish uses what’s called TriPolymer Technology and it combines the oligomers you get from gels, polymers you get from acrylics, and other polymers you get from lacquer. Why is this important? Because in mixing these together you get a very durable but also very light feeling enhancement.
As I’ve been diving deeper into the world that is Gelish PolyGel, the one thing that I am fascinated by is because of the technology that is used within the PolyGel, you can spend large amounts of time on an enhancement. Again, why is this important? Listen, we all know that Rome was not built in a day and some of those nail enhancements require HOURS in a chair and as the person holding the brush you do not want that stuff to harden while you're trying to sculpt and shape the nail. Think of all of the things that you are able to create with all of the time in the world… well maybe not the world but you get the idea.
Another thing that has really got me loving this product on how easy the application process is. Full disclosure: I haven’t tried this yet (stay tuned because I will!) but from the videos I have watched so far it looks quite a bit easier than traditional acrylics. (I have done those before but not in a professional setting. Also one of the things I tried during quarantine.) The thing I seemed to struggle with when I was dealing with the regular powder liquid situation was getting the ratio right. I would use too much powder or too much liquid or not enough of whichever so my mixture was never right. and of course i kept getting frustrated and now that little acrylic set i got from walmart is wasting away somewhere in my garage. Obviously this gets a thumbs up from me because it looks to be very user friendly. The application process looks very simple which is again, something we love around these parts. Another thing that I love is it comes in a tube and you just put the amount you want to use on the natural and build from there. And that means… no more mixing! Also, speaking as a true left handed person, these two things make me really optimistic about this product when it comes to applying this to my nail myself because it doesn't dry before I cure it so I can really take my time with my less dominant hand to really make sure I get a nice looking enhancement before the curing. My right hand doesn't even know what year it is so I'm anxious to see how well it can handle the PolyGel application process.
There's a few more things that really make this a winning product, but I think the number one thing that I should mention is that there is zero air-borne dust that is created while filing. The reason being is that the particles are heavier than those that are created when filing traditional acrylic, thus falling straight down and not being suspended in the air to be breathed in. So it is completely safe for both nail techs and clients alike!
I feel like everyone should get their hands on this product and try it out for themselves! If you have already tried it, SEND ME YOUR PHOTOS of the creations you’ve made!!! Stay tuned for videos of me trying these for the first time! I am so excited to get my hands on these babies!
Sending you all of the good vibes, energies, and love! Have a wonderful week and keep on creating!
