Nail Prep: The most important part of any service!
Sep 23rd 2019
Prepping the natural nail is the most important part of any professional salon service. This step is essential to provide your clients with long-lasting wear, as well as a clean and professional-looking application. Artistic Nail Design's creative director, Alisha Rimando, walks us through the basic steps of nail prep:
Alisha recommends four basic steps:
CUTICLE PREP
Gently push the cuticle back using a cuticle pusher, and remove any cuticle from the nail plate using a scraper. Any cuticle stuck to the surface of the nail is dead skin and removing it will allow product to adhere firmly to the nail plate.
BUFF
Using a buffer meant for natural nails, gently buff the surface of the nail just to remove the natural shine. This will also help to remove natural oils and moisture from the nail, as well as create a better surface for product to stick to. Shaping of the free edge can also be done at this time.
CLEANSE
Cleanse the nail with a lint-free wipe and nail surface cleanser. This step removes dust, dirt, and oils from the nail. You'll want to really scrub the nail to clean it.
PH PREP
Apply a small amount of PH prep to the nail plate. This product removes moisture from the nail, allowing product to go on smoothly and give your client long-lasting wear.
