PolyGel: FAQ

PolyGel: FAQ

Oct 24th 2019

As the newest innovation in the nail industry, a lot of nail professionals and clients still have questions about PolyGel. Let's take a dive into this exciting product!

Q: What is PolyGel?

A: PolyGel is a nail enhancement product developed by the makers of Gelish. You can think of it as sort of a happy medium between hard gel and acrylic. It is easy to work with like acrylic, but requires no ratios and has an unlimited play time. PolyGel won't cure until you want it to (cures in an LED/UV lamp), and it stays where you put it with no running or chasing. PolyGel is perfect for any skill level from the brand new nail tech to the seasoned professional.

Q: How can it be used?

A: The sky is the limit with PolyGel. Use it as a natural nail overlay for clients who need added strength, or use it for extentions with tips or forms. You can even use the pink and white colors for French applications!

Q: Does it smell?

A: The short answer is NO! PolyGel itself is odorless, and the slip solutions typically have a pleasant melon scent (depending on brand). This PolyGel feature is huge - your salon can be transformed into a more spa-like experience without the harsh smell of monomer used with acrylics.

Q: How long does it last?

A: PolyGel offers about two weeks of wear with no chipping, cracking, or lifting! It's stronger than hard gels and lighter than acrylic without sacrificing any performance.

Q: What is the prep process?

A: PolyGel prep is the same as any other professional prep process. Shape the nail, prep cuticle, buff the nail, apply pH bond, apply soak-off gel base coat - see the video below for more!

Q: What is the removal process?

A: PolyGel is not soak-off, it must be filed. The good news is that it's much lighter than arylic or hard gels so there is virtually no airborne dust and it's extremely easy to file! PolyGel can be backfilled just like acrylic or hard gels.

Q: What brands manufacture genuine PolyGel?

A: Three major brands make PolyGel: Gelish, Artistic Nail Design (called Putty), and Entity (called Studio One Contouring Gel). All three brands use the original PolyGel technology.

Hopefully that leaves most of your questions answered! At Nail Supply Inc., we think PolyGel is incredible and has the potential to change the industry. Here's a couple videos to give you an idea of what PolyGel actually looks like:
